Does industrial agglomeration affect the regional environment? Evidence from Chinese cities
Published in Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2022
This study examines the impact of industrial agglomeration on the regional environment using panel data from 13 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (1998–2018). Results reveal spatial autocorrelation in pollution levels, with manufacturing agglomeration worsening pollution, service agglomeration mitigating it, and synergistic agglomeration exhibiting an inverted U-shaped relationship with environmental pollution.

How does environmental regulation affect economic growth? Evidence from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration in China
Published in Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, 2023
This study investigates the relationship between environmental regulation and economic growth using panel data from 13 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (2003–2018). Results reveal an inverted U-shaped relationship, where the Porter hypothesis and compliance cost hypothesis dominate at different regulation intensities. Energy intensity and industrial structure are identified as key transmission mechanisms.
